Xifin Joins Initiative to Improve Cancer Diagnosis in Africa
A medical technologist and engineer, Thomas Strilko has over two decades’ experience in his field. Today, Thomas Strilko serves as the vice president of sales at Xifin, Inc., a healthcare information-technology company revolutionizing healthcare diagnostics across North America.
In March 2018, Xifin announced it was joining the American Society of Clinical Pathology’s (ASCP) global initiative “Partners to Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment in Africa.” The initiative provides patients in disadvantaged areas in sub-Saharan Africa quality cancer diagnostics to facilitate effective treatment.
In that part of the world, 650,000 new cancer diagnoses are made annually. The disease has a very high mortality rate because of inadequate screening technologies, laboratories, and pathologists. A situation which prevent timely diagnosis. By providing cloud-based telepathology, ASCP’s global initiative will improve cancer diagnosis and overall treatment outcomes in the region.
Xifin’s participation in the initiative means its revolutionary LIS Anywhere technology will be used to perform sample tracking and reporting in local communities in Africa. It will also be used to support case reviews and consultations with pathologists based in the United States.

Strength Training and Weightlifting Tools and Methods
Thomas Strilko works at XIFIN in San Diego, where he has held positions including technologist, service engineer, and currently, sales professional. During his spare time, Thomas Strilko enjoys weightlifting, a form of strength training that can be difficult to get started in but provides significant benefits once training is underway.
Strength training can be done with barbells, dumbbells, or no weights at all. All three have their place in a balanced fitness regimen.
Bodyweight exercises include classics like push-ups, pull-ups, and dips, and many can be done without any equipment. These exercises are great for those on a budget, but should be regularly adjusted for consistent strength improvement.
Dumbbells, meanwhile, can be acquired relatively cheaply, take up little space, and adjustable dumbbells make small adjustments in weight easy. The stabilization challenge of a single-handed weight can also draw attention to muscle groups neglected when training on machines. On the other hand, a wide range of heavy dumbbells can be quite expensive.
The final type of free weight, the barbell, generates clear and rapid progression with increments of weight added regularly. Its stability makes it the best tool for lower body training as well. A full set of weights can be acquired gradually as a beginning lifter gains experience.

Tips for Beginners to Get the Most Out of Weight Lifting
Since late 2017, Thomas Strilko has worked as vice president for XIFIN, Inc. found in San Diego, California. Outside of the office, Thomas Strilko enjoys weight lifting.
To get the most out of weight lifting, beginners need to learn how to do it properly. That way they can get the most out of the exercise.
* Rest between sets. The amount of time between sets depending upon the intensity that beginners lift. For instance, if beginners do 12 to 15 reps, then they should rest a shorter amount of time, say 45 to 75 seconds. For one to five reps, beginners should rest two to five minutes. The amount of rest has to do with energy. The more reps done with lighter weight means the body will recover faster.
* Know your weight limit. Beginners should lift at least 70 to 75 percent of their maximum weight. Lifting higher than that will work muscular endurance. Lifting weights lighter than that won’t help beginners build muscle.
* Have a nutrition plan. After beginners train, they should eat a meal containing different types of carbohydrates. The food should have high, medium, and limited amount of glycemic carbohydrates. Beginners should also eat protein, with a post-workout meal having .2 times the person’s body weight.
